Prempeh College Wins The Kumerican Derby Contest To Advance To The Grand Finale Of NSMQ 2021

The semifinals stages of this year's National Science and Maths quiz (NSMQ) started on the Tuesday, 23rd November 2021. 

This stage ended with a contest between Prempeh College, Opoku Ware School and Knust SHS all from the Ashanti region.  Thus, this contest was termed the Kumerican derby, since all the three schools were from the Ashanti region/ Kumasi. 

Prempeh College was represented by Obeng Eden Nana Kyei and Evans Oppong. 

Opoku Ware School was represented by Marfo Kyei Richmond and Owusu Sarfo Prince. 

Knust SHS was represented by Andrew Kwabena Adjapong and Fahad Ibrahim. 

At the end of the first round, Prempeh College was leading with 33 points, Opoku Ware came in second with 26 points and Knust SHS was in third with 17 points. 

Then straight into the second round, which is nicknamed the speed race. 

After the second round, Prempeh College was still leading with 44 points, Opoku Ware still in second place with 40 points and Knust SHS had 20 points, positioning them in the third place. 

Before the third round, Opoku Ware substituted Owusu Sarfo Prince for Nii Amarh Amartey Pius.

At the third round, all schools are given the same question which is termed as the problem of the day. 

Prempeh College had one point, Opoku Ware scored three points and Knust SHS got 4 points. 

Thus, at the end of the third round, Prempeh College was still in the lead with 45 points, Opoku Ware still in second place with 43 points, and Knust SHS in third with 24 points. 

Then, came the fourth round of the contest. The round is termed as the True or False stage. 

After the fourth round, Prempeh College had 61 points, Opoku Ware school with 56 points and Knust SHS got 34 points. 

Then off to the last round which is the fifth round of the contest. The fifth round are for riddles.

At the end of the fifth round and end of the contest, Prempeh College carried the day with 67 points, Opoku Ware came second with 59 points and Knust SHS earned 38 points placing them in the third position. 

Congratulations to Prempeh for making it through to the grand finale of this year's NSMQ competition. 

The Grand finale contest will be held on Friday, 26th November 2021.
