GOVERNMENT STILL CONSULTING MINORITY FOR CONSENSUS ON E-LEVY – FINANCE MINISTER

Following the controversy concerning the acceptance of the proposed 2022 Budget, the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta organized a press conference where he addressed the press’ concerns on the issue at hand. 



In regards to the challenge where the minority continues to express their displeasure towards the increase in tax rates and creation of various taxes as well as withdrawal of some already existing taxes.


One of these taxes that raised quite an uproar was the E-Levy. This proposal allows the government to deduct 1.75% levy on all electronic taxes. 


Meanwhile the Minister disclosed that he is still trying to persuade the Minority to accept this new development as it will go a long way to increase Ghana’s revenue.

According to Mr. Ofori-Atta, the E-levy is “the greatest opportunity to broaden the tax base and meet the Tax to GDP ratio of 20%”.


He went on to say that this levy is intended to support entrepreneurship, youth employment, build infrastructure and most of all, reduce national debt.
